Exeter travel scholars coming to a city near you!

We are delighted to introduce you to 2019’s North America and East Asia travel scholars.

Thanks to the generosity of donors to the annual fund, we are able to offer a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for a student to visit North America and Canada. This year’s North America Travel Scholar is Antonio Perricone (2017, English Literature and Language). Antonio is an editor of The Isis student magazine and a keen photographer; while travelling he plans to pursue a personal photography project and learn more about LGBTQ history in North America. He will also be volunteering with Voices 4, a non-violent activism group who draw attention to LGBTQ injustice internationally, and hopes to gain insight into how grassroot activism groups can help effect change. He will be visiting New York, Boston and Washington between 15th July and 12th August.

The East Asia Travel Scholarship, which was very kindly founded by Friend of the College Peter Thompson, exists to enable Exeter students to explore interests in East Asia which may otherwise be unavailable to them. This year’s East Asia Travel Scholar is Ayesha Sehgal (2018, History and English). Ayesha has been studying Mandarin Chinese at the language centre, and hopes to expand her vocabulary during her travels. She will be taking part in a youth leadership camp with LAN international, where she will be a camp leader, and hopes to represent Oxford to young people considering their next step in higher education. Ayesha is also planning to travel to Shanghai and Hong Kong, to explore and enjoy as much of the cities as she can. She will be visiting Qingdao, Shanghai, and Hong Kong between 5th July and 5th August.

If you are based in the USA or East Asia, and you would like to meet Antonio or Ayesha – perhaps to offer a coffee or a meal, to hear more about their projects and life at Exeter, or even somewhere to stay for a night – please email development@exeter.ox.ac.uk. If you simply have some advice about the best places to visit in your area, this is also very welcome! We are incredibly excited to send out Antonio and Ayesha as our ambassadors, and hope that you enjoy meeting them.
