Exeter welcomes Sir Paul Nurse
Exeter College welcomed Sir Paul Nurse yesterday, the well known geneticist and cell biologist and a winner of the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine. Sir Paul spoke about the history and future of the field of biology.
The lecture theatre was absolutely full, with students and Old Members across all disciplines attending. Sir Paul talked his audience through the history of biology, from the discovery of cells within organisms through to modern biological concepts such as ‘wetware’, the principle that organisms’ cells contain information that can be reprogrammed.
After the lecture Sir Paul attended a drinks reception and dinner with students of the College, giving them an opportunity to quiz one of the leading biologists of our time.
