Exeter welcomes University honorands

Exeter College welcomed distinguished members of the University of Oxford plus the University’s honorands yesterday ahead of the Encaenia ceremony in the Sheldonian.

The College once again hosted Lord Crewe’s Benefaction, where members of the University gather to meet with the honorands before processing into Brasenose Lane, through Radcliffe Square and into the Sheldonian.

The eminent figures from the fields of theology, law, economics, architecture, film, science, engineering and music who received honorary degrees this year were: Monsignor Professor Tomáš Halík​, a priest, philosopher and theologian; The Right Hon the Lord Mance, PC, a Justice of the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom; Professor Paul Krugman, an economist, author and columnist; architect Professor Kazuyo Sejima; film director and screenwriter Pedro Almodóvar​; neurobiologist Dr Cornelia BargmannProfessor Mildred Dresselhaus, a physicist and Institute Professor at Massachusetts Institute of Technology; Sir Jonathan Ive​, Chief Design Officer of Apple Inc; and composer Arvo Pärt​.

The honorands met with the Chancellor, Vice-Chancellor, Rector Trainor, and other members of the University before attending Encaenia. You can read more about the honorands here and about Encaenia here.
