Exonian Stanley Johnson (1959, English) in The Real Marigold Hotel

Exeter alumnus Stanley Johnson (1959, English) is appearing in the new series of the BBC’s The Real Marigold Hotel. The programme – inspired by the hit film The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel – follows a group of celebrities who have travelled to India to see whether retirement would be more rewarding there than in the UK.

Mr Johnson, who is known for his writing and political work, as well as for his well-received appearance in the ITV reality TV show I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! in 2017, is joined on the BBC One show by Grand National winning jockey Bob Champion, actors Peter Dean, Stephanie Beacham, and Susan George, television presenter and journalist Selina Scott, comedian Syd Little, and comedy duo the Krankies (Janette and Ian Tough). After leaving their routines and loved ones behind in the UK, the group has to adapt to India’s culture, customs and living arrangements.

The programme is being shown on Wednesday evenings and is also available on BBC iPlayer until 3 September.
