Fellow Professor Jonathan Thacker co-edits A Companion to Calderón de la Barca

Professor Jonathan Thacker, Professorial Fellow and King Alfonso XIII Professor of Spanish studies, has co-edited the first comprehensive study of Calderón de la Barca in English, alongside Dr Roy Norton.

Calderón de la Barca (1600-1681) is one of the most important dramatists of the Spanish Golden Age. He wrote over 120 plays, as well as numerous Corpus Christi autos. His works continue to be studied, translated and performed today. A Companion to Calderón de la Barca delves into the intellectual, social, moral and literary contexts of the author’s life, and examines his stagecraft, his corpus, and his reception up to the twenty-first century. In addition to providing a thorough analysis of La vida es sueño and Calderón’s other dramas, the book explores his comedies, which have been the source of less critical analysis.

A Companion to Calderón de la Barca was published by Boydell & Brewer in November 2021 and is available for purchase here.
