Former Fellow Professor Kiaran Kirk appointed Member of the Order of Australia

Congratulations to former Exeter College Staines Medical Research Fellow Professor Kiaran Kirk, who was appointed Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in the 2023 Australia Day Honours. Professor Kirk was awarded the honour for his significant service to science education and research, and to professional organisations.

Professor Kirk served as Exeter College Staines Medical Research Fellow between 1992 and 1995 and as a Senior Research Fellow for the 1995/96 academic year. He also served as Sub-Rector in the 1994/95 academic year. He is now Dean of the Australian National University’s College of Science. His research has focused primarily on the biology of the malaria parasite, and on antimalarial drugs. He was elected a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Health and Medical Sciences (FAHMS) in 2017. In addition to his Australian National University role, Professor Kirk is the Chair of the Australian Wine Research Institute in Adelaide, and Chairs the Board of Clonakilla Wines, a family-owned winery in the Canberra District.
