Former Rector’s husband honoured

The husband of former Rector, Marilyn Butler, received a knighthood in the 2011 New Year’s Honours List for services to political science. Sir David Butler was a prominent expert on the BBC’s election night coverage for many years, and was a co-inventor of the “swingometer”. He has appeared as an electoral analyst on a range of television and radio programmes, and hisĀ Political Change in Britain: Forces Shaping Electoral Choice(written with US political scientist Donald Stokes) is regarded as a pioneering work of analysis. He is an Emeritus Fellow of Nuffield College.
