Kloppenburg Fellow in Politics and International Relations takes up post
Exeter College is delighted to have welcomed our new Tutorial Fellow in Politics and International Relations. Professor Laura Sjoberg joined Exeter College in Michaelmas Term, following the retirement of Emeritus Fellow in Politics Dr Michael Hart after 40 years at Exeter.
Named for Exeter College alumnus and Rhodes Scholar, Henry Kloppenburg (1968, BCL), who sadly died in 2022, the Kloppenburg Fellowship has been generously endowed by Henry Kloppenburg and his widow, Cheryl, who is a Prideaux Fellow of Exeter College. Henry was one of a number of Canadian Rhodes Scholars who came to Exeter from the province of Saskatchewan, a tradition dating back to the 1940s. Henry and Cheryl were well known philanthropists in Canada where they supported their alma mater, the University of Saskatchewan, as well as many arts and cultural institutions. They also generously supported the College’s Cohen Quad project in which a room is named in their honour.
Professor Sjoberg joined Exeter from Royal Holloway, having also held roles at Harvard, Duke Virginia Tech, and the University of Florida. Her primary areas of research intersect armed conflict and gender studies, and her teaching strengths include international relations theory, international security, feminist and queer international relations, international law, methods and epistemology, and international political theory.
