Minister for Civil Society Nick Hurd (1981, Lit Hum) visits the Oxford Hub

The Minister for Civil Society, Nick Hurd (1981, Lit Hum), visited the Oxford Hub charity on Turl Street last week in order to learn about student-community engagement.

The Minister had a tour of the Turl Street Kitchen, office space and events space which comprise the Oxford Hub in order to learn more about how the Hub operates a building dedicated to student-community engagement.

Nick Hurd heard about the Schools Plus programme, through which Oxford Hub places over 200 students in 8 local schools.

Mr Hurd was interested in how the work of the Oxford Hub contributes to the overall student experience. Staff explained how the different Hub activities that students engage with during their time at university often have a transformative effect and shape students’ career choices, with former Hub students currently working in not-for-profit organisations including Big Society Capital and the Department for International Development.
