Nandini Das’s Courting India receives glowing reviews

Only a month after its publication, Tutorial Fellow in English Professor Nandini Das’s Courting India has garnered significant praise. The book details one of the most important encounters in the history of colonialism, the first English embassy to the Mughal court of Emperor Jahangi.

William Dalrymple’s review in The Financial Times called it a “triumph”, noting that “it is hard to imagine anyone ever bettering Das’s account of this part of the story.” The New York Times praised its combination of “sensitivity to the literature of Jacobean England with a sympathetic and nuanced understanding of the Mughal empire.”

Among other events, Nandini will be speaking about Courting India at British Library’s HistFest on 29 April and Waterstones Oxford on 5 May
