I am a doctoral student at the Department of Astrophysics in Oxford. I graduated from Oxford with a MPhys degree (2017-2021), following which I received a MSc in Space Systems Engineering (2021-2022) from the University of Southampton, and began my DPhil research in Gamma-Ray Astronomy (2022-Present) under the supervision of Professor Garret Cotter. From 2021-2023 I was a undergraduate tutor for physics at Magdalen College, Oxford, and in October 2024, I joined Exeter College, Oxford, as a stipendiary lecturer in physics.
Research Interests
My primary research focus, under my DPhil, is to study the gamma ray emissions from a wide range of astrophysical sources and interpret those emissions to gain insight into the physical nature of those sources. As part of this process we are developing a new kinetic modelling approach to fill the gap between the capability of currently existing modelling techniques and expand our ability to identify what is actually going on in these sources many lightyears away.
This research allows me to study a wide range of particle and plasma acceleration mechanisms, primarily found in the realm of high energy astrophysics. On a longer timescale, I hope to one day use this knowledge and adapt these mechanisms to aid in our exploration of space via the development of advanced space-based propulsion systems. Perhaps one day enabling fast, human exploration and study of these astrophysical sources in situ.
