The College Nurse and Welfare Officer is Helen Thornton. She deals with minor illness, minor injury, dressings, help navigating the NHS, when to see a GP, welfare etc.  

Helen has been a nurse since 2002 and is registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Standards (NMC)  She has been working at Exeter College since 2016. 

Helen can be seen at short notice if necessary, but it is advisable to email for an appointment slot.  For health/medical queries and appointments please email – if urgent please add this to the subject line.  Helen will answer emails asap but if urgent help is needed please call the lodge who can also reach her.

If you need to see a nurse when Helen is not in College, support is available:

The College Doctors run an ‘Express Clinic’, Monday – Friday from 11am – 1pm. To book this, you need to phone 01865 240501 and ask for Express clinic. If you call before 11am, you will be guaranteed an appointment that day.

Outside of working hours you can call 111 or, in an emergency, 999.

If you want advice about sexual health, there is a drop in service, operating out of The Rectory Medical Centre, Rectory Road, OX4 1BU; no appointment is necessary but should you wish to make one you can ring 01865 226969.
