Tim Sommer is a Lecturer in English Literature and Culture at the University of Passau and holds a PhD in English from the University of Heidelberg. He has been a Visiting Fellow at Harvard University, an Academic Visitor at the University of Cambridge, and a Visiting Research Fellow at the University of Edinburgh’s Institute for Advanced Studies in the Humanities. His stay at Oxford during the 2023–24 academic year is supported through a Feodor Lynen Research Fellowship funded by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. His research mainly covers British literature from the eighteenth century to the present, with a special focus on Romantic and Victorian poetry and non-fictional prose and on the twentieth-century novel. His current project retraces the institutional history of modern literary manuscript collecting.
