Professor Laura Sjoberg Publishes on Feminist Approaches to Security in Leading Journal
Professor Laura Sjoberg, Kloppenburg Official Fellow and Lecturer in Politics and International Relations at Exeter College, has contributed a major new article to Security Studies, a leading journal in international relations.
Her article, titled Feminist Theories and Thinking Security Otherwise, appears in Volume 33, Issue 5, part of a special issue exploring “Waltzian Theory and the Return of Power Politics.” In it, Professor Sjoberg challenges traditional frameworks of security analysis, arguing that feminist theories offer vital tools for rethinking how security is defined, studied, and practiced.
Sjoberg contends that dominant security paradigms often marginalise alternative perspectives and overlook how power, identity, and gender shape global politics. Her work calls for scholars to adopt more inclusive and reflexive methodologies that account for these dynamics.
This publication reinforces Professor Sjoberg’s status as a leading voice in feminist and critical security studies. Her extensive body of work, including the influential books Gendering Global Conflict and Gender and International Security, continues to shape contemporary debates in international relations.
