Professor Marian Knight, Supernumerary Fellow at Exeter College, has been appointed to join the new board of the National Institute for Health and Care Research. She joins as the Scientific Director for Research Infrastructure, one of four new Scientific Directors who will sit on the board.

The National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) funds, enables and delivers fundamental health and care research in the UK. As a NIHR board member, Professor Knight will support Professor Lucy Chappell, NIHR CEO and Chief Scientific Adviser of the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC), and Dr Gail Marzetti, Director of Science Research and Evidence at the DHSC. NIHR’s infrastructure includes organisations such as Biomedical Research Centres, of which there are two in Oxford, Applied Research Collaboratives and the Research Support Service providing research design advice to researchers.

Professor Knight will sit on the board of the NIHR on a part-time basis, alongside her work as an applied health researcher at Oxford, where she focuses on the care and prevention of severe complications of pregnancy and early life, addressing disparities in outcomes for women and babies from different population groups.

Exeter College congratulates Professor Knight on this exceptional achievement, and her continued extensive contribution to health and care research.
