Professor Mona Simion Elected to Governing Board of International Science Council
Professor Mona Simion, Michael Cohen Fellow in Philosophy at Exeter College, has been elected to the Governing Board of the International Science Council (ISC). She will take up her position on 23 October 2026 for a four-year term.
The International Science Council brings together national scientific academies, international scientific associations, and research organisations from across the world. Its membership includes leading UK institutions such as the British Academy, the Royal Society, and the Academy of Medical Sciences. The ISC provides a global voice for science, promoting international collaboration and ensuring that scientific knowledge informs policy and decision-making on issues of global importance.
The Council works closely with international organisations, including the United Nations, to strengthen the role of science in addressing major global challenges. Its Governing Board provides strategic leadership and oversees the organisation’s work in advancing science as a global public good.
Professor Simion’s election reflects her internationally recognised contributions to philosophy and interdisciplinary research. Her work spans epistemology, philosophy of language, moral and political philosophy, philosophy of artificial intelligence, and philosophy of information, alongside collaborations with neuroscience, psychology, computer science, and medicine.
Professor Simion is currently leading the European Research Council-funded KnowledgeLab: Knowledge-First Social Epistemology project and has recently been awarded a €2.5 million ERC Advanced Grant for her forthcoming research project, The Epistemology of Artificial Intelligence: A Foundational Framework (AI-KNOW).
She also serves as Ambassador of the European Research Council to the United Kingdom, is an elected member of Academia Europaea, and is Vice-Chair of the Young Academy of Europe.
Exeter College warmly congratulates Professor Simion on this achievement. Further information about the newly elected ISC Governing Board members is available on the Council’s website.
