Rector prepares for 160-mile walk

Exeter College is pleased to announce that Frances Cairncross CBE FRSC, Rector, will be walking from Exeter Cathedral, Devon to Exeter College, Oxford departing from the West End of the Cathedral at 10am on Thursday 25 July. This 160-mile walk will mark the launch of Exeter College’s 700th Anniversary celebrations as the Rector walks in the footsteps of the very first Exeter students of the 14th century.

As part of the 700th anniversary celebrations which will last the full academic year 2013-14, the Rector has chosen to invite students, alumni, Fellows, staff and friends of the College to join her on this walk to raise money to create an internship bursary which will support students wishing to work with an environmental agency in their vacation. The route, which goes through Honiton, Axminster, Beaminster, Sherbourne, Wincanton, Rode, Devizes, Avebury, the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, and Abingdon will take in Roman Roads, the Jubilee Trail, Monarch’s Way, Wessex Ridgeway, MacMillan Way, Kennett and Avon Canal, the Ridgeway, and Thames Path.

The Rector plans to arrive in Oxford by 11 August where she will be greeted with afternoon tea.

Anyone wishing to sponsor the Rector on her walk can do so here.
