Rector Trainor discusses the role of philanthropy in British higher education

Rector Sir Rick Trainor spoke recently about the role of philanthropy in British higher education at the Oxford Centre for the Study of Philanthropy.

Rector Trainor asked broadly what role should philanthropy play in British higher education. More specifically he looked in detail at the history of philanthropy in higher education and considered the projections for future giving, the implications of increasing philanthropy in the balance between private and public funding of UK higher education, the benefits and disadvantages of philanthropy to higher education, and the impact of philanthropy on teaching and research and on competition between universities.
