Summer Torpids 2021 to be live-streamed
After being cancelled last year due to the pandemic, this year’s Summer Eights rowing regatta has moved from 5th to 7th Week. Races will take place from Tuesday 8 to Friday 11 June, 12 – 7pm each day.
Organisers, Oxford University Rowing Clubs, are discouraging any spectator attendance to avoid crowds. Instead, the entire event will be live-streamed to allow alumni, relatives of participants and supporters around the globe to watch!
The filming and broadcasting is courtesy of First Sight Media, who will be providing an extremely high-quality experience for viewers – using multiple fixed cameras and a drone. This will allow spectators to see entire races and experience far more of the event than has ever been possible from one viewing position at a boathouse.
Ahead of the regatta, Head Coach Bee Dutton said: ‘Since we have all been allowed back out on the water, the engagement and enthusiasm from the ECBC seniors has been incredible, along with the determination and commitment of the new novice intake. I am extremely impressed with the novices and their attitude to learn leading to so many of them progressing into the seniors’ boats within the first few weeks.
‘We have already received lots of compliments from the other bank riding coaches towards the women’s, men’s and novice boats, a recognition that all rowers should be very proud of. I am very much looking forward to seeing what ECBC can do this summer!’
Wherever you may be watching the live stream, we hope you’ll join us in cheering on Exeter and wishing them all the best for this year’s regatta!
