Your Next Steps
Ensure to explore the Hub in detail as it contains all of the information you need to know about joining Exeter College. If this is not your first year with us, we still do encourage you to review the guides to keep yourself up-to-date with the changes that have been made.
Click on the boxes below to reveal the tasks you need to complete next.
Every new starter needs to complete an Arrivals & Information Form which will have questions relating to the following:
- Student Contracts
- Dietary Requirements
- Disability Disclosure
- UK Bank Account details (don’t worry if you are an International Student and don’t have these yet, you can submit the details to Accounts in due course)
Deadline for completion: 15th of September
An essential part of being a student of the University is the annual completion of registration. As a new student you should complete the first step of your University registration by verifying your details online using Student Self Service before you arrive.
You will need to use your Oxford Single Sign On details to access Student Self Service. These will be emailed to you over the next few weeks to the email address we have contacted you on previously (please regularly check your junk folder). You will need to follow the instructions and activate your account. If you have only recently submitted your Card Form then this will take a bit longer to come through whilst the team creates your student record, please allow a couple of weeks before following up.
You need to register in order to attend your programme of study, release your loan from the UK Student Loans Company/sponsor/awarding body, use your University email account, obtain your University Card, print an enrolment certificate, be eligible to take examinations and access your results.
Your status as a member of the University is also not confirmed until your enrolment has been completed by the College, which usually takes place in Week 0 of term. We are unable to complete this step or issue your University Card until you have registered.

Deadline for completion: 1st of October
If you have successfully verified your details through Student Self Service then you will be able to collect your University Card once you’ve arrived which is the last step in your enrolment process.
Your University Card
- enables you to access facilities and services such as libraries, computing services and the Language Centre
- acts as a payment card in College and some departments
- allows entry to buildings which have swipe-card access control
- provides you with a form of identity whenever you are on college or University premises
- gains you a student discount at many stores, including 10% off in the University’s High Street Shop and online at oushop.com.
Important information regarding your University Card must be read here.
Your card will need to be collected during Freshers’ Week from the Academic Office team in the College Offices (next to S9) who will also enrol you. Please book a collection slot below:
If you hold a visa or have settled/pre-settled status, then you will need to upload your visa and passport information before we can complete the enrolment process and release your card to you.
You will need to collect your card from us before you can generate your enrolment certificate which is needed to open a bank account. Enrolment certificates are self-generated via Student Self-Service. If you require a signed and stamped version you will need to email a PDF copy to academic.office@exeter.ox.ac.uk.
If you have held a card previously, you will need to bring this with you in order for us to exchange it for your new one.
In order to complete your enrolment we require visa and passport copies for the following:
- all non-UK/non-Irish students
- Including those with pre-settled or settled status granted under the EU Settlement Scheme
- Includes other visa types e.g. dependant student, ancestry visa
If you fall into any one of these categories, please complete the following form, ensuring that you are logged in with your Oxford Single Sign On (SSO) or else you will not be able to upload your documentation.
If you have an immigration share code please ensure you are generating it from https://www.gov.uk/view-prove-immigration-status.
We do not need passport/visa copies for:
- Part-time students
- UK or Irish nationals
- Those with indefinite leave to remain (non-EU)

How to find the Academic Office
Exeter College can be found on Turl Street, OX1 3DP. This What3Words link will bring you to our front gate where the Porters’ Lodge is located.
If travelling by:
Car
If travelling into Oxford by car then there multiple Park and Ride stations which are convenient to use and would be our recommended way of travelling in, as parking in Oxford is extremely limited.
Taxi ranks can be found at Oxford Railway Station, Gloucester Green Coach Station, and St Giles’. If pre-booking, there are many local taxi companies to use, but these are the two we, in the Academic Office, use most:
001 Taxis
Royal Cars
Note that Uber does not operate in Oxford, however the app will still work and connect you instead to a local taxi firm.
Bus
If travelling from London, the Oxford Tube offers a very regular and direct service with no need to pre-book.
Alight at the following stops for a short walk to the College:
High Street J1 – 6 minute walk
St Aldates H5 – 7 minute walk
Gloucester Green Coach Station – 8 minute walk
Gloucester Green Coach Station is also the central Oxford stop for most of the national bus companies, including National Express and Megabus.
Train
Oxford Railway Station is a (mostly-straight) 15-minute walk away, and there will be taxis stationed outside to take advantage of should you not wish to walk.
